"Aster can't say much." Admitted Orion. "The seal is very⦠restrictive."
Frey could hear the grinding of Sylvan's teeth.
"Let's get to work." She said, rising from her seat. "The sooner the seal is off him the sooner you can question him to your heart's content."
"Him?" Sylvan asked hesitantly.
"Him." Frey agreed, not bothering to elaborate. What was there to say, anyway? She was just as stumped as Sylvan by the fact that Aster, a scion to an all-female race, was fucking male.
Frey had designed the seal to counter the blond's the night before. Painting it onto his true form -as usual, in her own blood- didn't take long, practiced as she was in the craft. She'd not told the brothers about conduits, of course, so the process was accompanied with an explanation of what she was doing for the benefit of Sylvan, who likely understood none of it. When she was done, at last, Frey rested her hands on Aster's back, in the space she'd left clear for that purpose.
"That's it." She said. "You just have to channel the magic, now. You'll need to be touching me, though, since it's my blood and all." She lied, knowing that Sylvan would catch the hint. It's not like she could openly ask that he lend her some magic, now could she? "Aster- this shouldn't hurt. I know you'd be willing to endure it but it won't, alright?"
The arg nodded.
Sylvan's hands were warm and heavy atop hers and Frey was almost taken off guard by how eagerly his magic rushed to accommodate her.
It felt wonderful. Exhilarating. The power that had reluctantly answered Frey when she used it last sang for her this time: where Frey expected molten rock and chaotic flames, she found overheated lava that flowed through Sylvan's pathways as smoothly as water would. The fire was present but controlled, directed, and it rose up to her every command as if begging to heed her call.
His magic was easier to direct than her own, like this, and for the first time Frey recalled that conduits didn't only share power; they multiplied it.
Shit, no wonder the Gods feared the zun, enough to curse them.
